Would you have quit at Valley Forge or re-enlisted?

I will quit because so for people are dying from disease, weather condition, and more. We have lack of supplies and lack of clothing.

So Camila, freedom from the British is not worth the harsh winter spent at Valley Forge? What about the taxes?

They need your support though. You would go through this whole war and decide to leave now? You might as well fight the rest of this war and get the freedom you've been seeking for otherwise soon enough everyone is going to quit and you'll be stuck paying taxes. Although the conditoions are rough you got in this war to end it and get your freedom so leaving wouldnt be a good idea.

Yes I would quit because George Washington and his soldiers was not prepared for the war not enough supplies they had to ask a committee first for things they needed for the war and to many different types of diseases not enough food and I love to eat. Cold weather some soldiers had no shoes I probably would not have been strong enough to fight the war.

I agree. We shouldn't risk our lives on a unprepeared army. I rather be called a summer solider then die of sickness.

I wouldn't have quit at valley forge because knowing that my army was loosing people and not doing so well, they needeed all the soldiers they could get. We are fighting for our freedom so in order to get the freedom we want, we have to fight for it. Another reason to stay is that we needed the soldiers to convince the continental congress that they were in desperate need of money to be able to purchase supplies. If the congress saw that everyone was quitting they would think "whats the point of giving them money if half of them are quitting?". You would be convincing the congress that this war was going to be a fail. My last reason to stay is that if everyone sees that one soldier has lost hope and is quitting, all of the other soldiers would mostly likely do the same because they are sick and tired of fighting. By staying you are showing your fellow troops that there is hope and that you can win this war and be successful.

I understand what you'er saying but why put your life at risk? What makes you think that the Congress will change their mind if soldiers stay then soldiers quitting? The congress doesnt care now what makes you think they would care later? And yes the soldiers should have hope but thats got to be a limit. If i was a soldier, i would quit. Im not going to be in a army that i dont get fed, puts my life at risk, and dont even get suplied.Whats the point on fighting in a war that not even your congress believes that there can be a chance you could win. If the congress cared at all, they would supply the soldiers with things that they belive would help them win. If people join the army obviously they know their putting their lives at risk but not this way. The soldiers deserve better!

If I were to be a soldier at Valley Forge I would have not abandoned the Continental Army. Even though there were harsh weather conditions, lack of supplies, and just barely a good amount of soldiers to fight, we know our drive for liberty from Britain doesn't come without its perks. Our freedom doesn't come cheap and we take what we posses for granted, but we will not let people toy around with our rights, especially not Britain. I would rather die and make a difference for everyone than stay at home knowing I could of at least contributed to fight for what's right. By not only getting support for our troops from the Congressional Committee, but getting support from the people we're fighting for will give us the boost we need our in gaining a victory and liberty from Britain would be in our grasp.

But what if you do survive the war but the harsh and cold winter at Valley Forge possible made you have to cut off a couple toes or an arm from frostbite. Who you be able to live the rest of your life knowing that even though you won your freedom, it came at a very tough price? It made you have to live a live where you have lost limbs?

If I were a soldier apart of the Continental Army at Valley Forge, I would have not been a "summer soldier" or "sunshine patriot". Which in other words means I would not have quit/abandoned/or not re-enlisted in the army. Even though we had a lack of supplies and the weather conditions were very harsh and the housing poor and the the number of soldiers to fight was slowly decreasing as many died off or were ill, I would not have quit. I would not want to live under somebody's (Britian's) control for all my life while they told me what I could and can't do or where I can't and can live or how much something costs. I am my own person. Thomas Paine's The American Crisis was very inspirational as well and it motivated me greatly. So did my friends and teammates. Even in such poor conditions where people are vomiting and walking around barefoot in the snow, their attitudes were positive and cheery. If they can be happy in such bad times, why can I not? Also, the support of my country will keep me going and remind that I am doing this for not all my rights and my freedom, but for everybody else's freedom as well.

If i was a soilder at Valley Forge i would have stayed because even though there was harsh winter conditions, lack of supplies, and barely any soilders to fight the war. I rather fight for what i belive in then be a quiter.People that are leaving the valley forge are only makeing it worse for the team there not only letting there team down there making the army smaller for the soilders to fight in war. I rather support my team then let the be ill and die and walk barefooted on the ground ,and troops that have no clotheson that are nearly naked showing meat.Thomas Paine's quote in doc c means don't let you your freinds and teamates down and fight for what you believed in fighting for and be motivated to do it .Thomas Paines qoute made me be motivated in what i really belived in and that was supporting troops, friends and teamates on the army squad.
