As we recently learned in class, the Articles of Confederation had some problems. What recommendations would you make to the Unites States Congress for improving the federal government?
Remember to use open-ended response format, proper spelling and grammar, and three changes you would make.

One thing I would change about the Articles of Confederation is that Congress had no power to make or collect taxes. If money is needed, money is needed! Congress should be able to collect money from the states and they should willingly cooperate. Another thing I would change about the Articles of Confederation is that Congress could not regulate boundaries of states and because of this, states bickered over where their land ended or began. Congress should’ve been able to dictate this. And lastly, Congress should be able to agree on something if only about half or 7 (not 9) states agreed on something because it is not Congress’s fault the states can’t decide. Decisions need to be made!

I would change the money in the different states because it makes it hard to trade with other states. Congress also needs to enforce the laws if they don’t want to go into another dept. from not getting taxes. Lastly the states couldn’t agree to change the article. This is a problem because people wouldn’t get taxed, it made it hard to trade, and there was a huge war dept.

The three things I would change about the Articles of Confederation is the Congress’s power to collect taxes, the fact that they had no control over trade and commerce, and that all 13 states needed to vote before laws can be changed. I feel that these three things needed to be changed because firstly, the Congress owed a lot of debts. Collecting taxes will enable them to pay off some of those debts. Secondly, if the government didn’t take control over commerce, states would fight over such things like goods and boundaries. Finally if all the states had to vote in order for laws to be changed, then laws that affected most of the states cannot be changed. A majority of the states needs to vote, not all thirteen.

Three things I would decide to change is the weakness about having different currencies. All the colonies should’ve had the same money to make the economy easier to flow with, also to be able to buy products/trading over the boundaries. Another change I would change is about how the government doesn’t have the power to tax colonists to pay off the debts that they are having. Lastly the government should make less than 9 out of 13 states to be agreeing about laws

What three things I would change about the Articles of Confederation are the Congress have no enforcement power, no authority over the states, and there was no power to collect taxes. I would want the national Congress to have enforcement power because if the Congress had to make an important decision, they would soon have to have the states enforce the decisions, but the congress should be the ones to have the ability to enforce their decisions and the states would still have a say. I would want the Congress to have authority over the states because they aren’t going to make progress if the colonies aren’t under control. I would want the Congress to collect taxes, so we can get out of debt.

The first thing would change is that I would allow congress to regulate commerce among the states. This way it would be easier to trade with other people. The second thing I would change is that I would allow congress to collect taxes rather than rely on the states to contribute money. Finally, I would make elections occur more than once a year.

I will change the way the confederation or independent states work. When the states are independent they have different laws or different types of currency. I will also change if all the 13 states are going to agree for different laws. There should be 1 person to change many laws if many people do not agree on the law.

The 1st this I would change about the articles of confederation is I would add in that you must pay taxes or be thrown out of the state. This way, people would be scared to not pay taxes. Another thing I would change is that they have elections to frequently. I would make elections every 2 years, and if the people elected aren’t really helping, another group of people have the right to throw out who ever is causing problems out. The last I would add is that I would add is that I would make certain states get together and either say yes or no to make everything much easier

Three things I would change is for the state to help the people to pay the federal taxes. This is one because they didn’t have enough money to pay tax. Second thing I would change is for the congress to have the power to enforce the law. Third thing is for people to agree on important things. Such as agreeing on new laws.

I would make it so all states Must agree before starting a war. Second thing I would change would be they should have some control over state borders. Last thing I would change would be that only more then half of the states should agree to a change.

If I had to help draft a new constitution in 1787, the first thing I'd change would be to allow every person (18+) to vote on things rather than one vote per state. Secondly, I'd make taxes allowed at a decent percentage so its fair and so that the congress would no longer be in debt. Last, I'd allow people to pay off debt, rather then imprisoning people for having no money. This is what I'd change.

I would allow the currency to be accepted anywhere because it is helpful to everyone. Instead of focusing on the short term goals and they should focus on the long term goals because what lies ahead is important. Change when each election is held so that people don't get kicked out of office.

The things I would change about the Articles of Confederation is maybe saving money for taxes and doing the right thing by paying the soldiers who fought in the Revolution War. Instead of relying on the states to contribute money. I would also change the individual state’s mind about coming to agreement on important things like freedom. Another thing I would change s that it should be 10 out of 13 states to agree on the laws.

Something I would change about the articles of confederation is that I would make 9 of 13 instead of 7 of 13 because 7 through 13 is a lot. As well as saving money for the taxes to pay those who were fighting in the war to be fair. They should as well change the fact that the individual states have really so much say on the laws being made. These are the changes I would make for the articles of confederation .
